Getting Your Driver's License
AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD - Student Driver (No Licence):
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Must be enrolled in a state-certified Driver Education course

Driving Privileges:
- You can drive only while accompanied by and receiving instruction from either a certified driver education instructor or a public school instructor
AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD - Learner Permit:
- Must have a valid permit for a minimum of 6 months
- Must have completed driver's ed course and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel
- Must have logged a minimum of 30 hours of practice driving
- Must have a Commercial Driving School or Parent Taught Driver Education certificate

Driving Privileges:
- You can drive between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old.
AT LEAST 16 YEARS OLD - Intermediate Licence:
- Must have held a Learner Permit for 180 days
- Must have completed at least 50 hours (10 hours at night) of behind-the-wheel training from a licensed driver at least 21 years old and licensed for at least two years
- Must not have an expired permit
- Must not have ANY traffic convictions from the past 180 days
- Complete the Oklahoma Work Zone Safe Course (if you are under 18) and bring the certificate of completion to your driving test

Driving Privileges:
- You can drive from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. there are no restrictions if you are driving to and from activities related to school, church, or work or if you are accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old sitting in the front seat.
- You can drive with one passenger OR only household members OR any passenger if accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old sitting in the front seat.
AT LEAST 16 1/2 YEARS OLD - Unrestricted Licence:
- Must have taken Driver's Education
- Must have held an Intermediate License for at least six months (180 days)
- Must have no traffic convictions on driving record for 180 days immediately preceding the issuance of the unrestricted license

Driving Privileges:
- Driving with a Class D Driver's license in the State of Oklahoma means you may drive all vehicles or combinations of vehicles except A, B, and C without any restrictions on the time of day or the type or number of passengers you can drive (within legal limits).
- A Unrestriced Licence does not restrict the hours you can drive or the passengers you may have in your vehicle.
- This is the final stage of the GDL Program.
